In honor of Women’s History Month, Flatirons Bank is proud to spotlight the women who help move our clients, our community, and our local economy forward. Throughout March, we’re highlighting inspiring professionals and women-owned businesses across Boulder County who are making a meaningful impact through their leadership, dedication, and service to others.
One of those businesses is Dolan + Zimmerman, a women-owned law firm founded on the belief that legal representation should be personal, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in understanding each client’s story. Through their client-centered approach and commitment to helping people navigate difficult moments with clarity and confidence, the team at Dolan + Zimmerman has built a practice that reflects both professional excellence and genuine care for the community they serve.
We asked the founders to share more about what inspired them to start their firm, the moments that have shaped their growth, and their advice for other women building businesses. Below, they share their perspective on leadership, purpose, and the importance of supporting local relationships that help communities thrive.
What inspired you to start or lead your business?
Our firm was founded on the belief that people facing legal challenges deserve to be truly heard and supported. Too often, the legal system can feel impersonal and overwhelming. We wanted to build a practice where clients feel empowered—where their story, goals, and future are taken into account in every decision we make. At Dolan + Zimmerman, we take a highly individualized approach to each case and work closely with our clients so they understand their options and feel confident moving forward. Helping people navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives is what inspired us to create this firm and continues to motivate us every day.
What has been one of your biggest growth moments?
One of the biggest growth moments has been seeing how our client-centered philosophy resonates with the community. As the firm has grown, we’ve expanded our ability to serve people across a range of legal matters—from criminal defense to family law, civil litigation, and personal injury. Each case reminds us how meaningful our work is. Moments like achieving a not-guilty verdict, helping a client preserve their career, or allowing someone to move forward with their life reinforce why we do this work and have shaped the way our firm continues to grow.
What advice would you give other women building a business?
Trust your instincts and build something that reflects your values. For us, that meant creating a firm where transparency, collaboration, and genuine care for clients guide every decision. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who share your commitment and vision. Running a business is challenging, but staying focused on your purpose and the people you serve will help guide you through the inevitable ups and downs.
Why is banking locally important to you?
Local businesses are the backbone of strong communities. Banking locally allows us to build relationships with people who understand the community we serve and the needs of small businesses like ours. It also keeps resources and investment within the local economy. As a firm that works closely with individuals and families in our community, it’s important to support other local institutions that are equally committed to helping our community thrive.
